YOUR VOLKSWAGEN: THE PEOPLE’S CHAMPION!
Volkswagen has a longstanding reputation as an industry leader in advanced automotive engineering and road-life dependability. VW is a vehicle make for which generations of family members can get behind the wheel and eventually inherit ownership. You probably know this German automaker for its superior manufacturing and performance standards, but there are a few pieces of trivia that you’ve probably never heard before. Here are just a few facts about Volkswagen that may surprise you.
What’s In a Name?
Yes, name recognition is a great asset when building a brand and an identity, but not all names are created equal. The name Ford represents so much of what American automaking and innovation still mean today. On the other hand, Volkswagen was founded by Adolf Hitler, a name that doesn’t carry the same benefit today. Back in 1937, Hitler founded Volkswagen, building a whole city to house its factory and workers. Of course, that was a long time ago, and Volkswagen has since proven to be a symbol of excellent German engineering and not totalitarianism.
Punch-Buggy!
For decades, children have been spotting them and calling them out on long road trips–the Volkswagen Beetle! The Beetle is a beloved little car, even being the title character of major motion pictures. But did you know that it’s been more than just a cultural fad? It’s actually been one of the best-selling vehicles throughout the entire 20th Century. That’s an accomplishment in itself, being a vehicle model that has remained popular, profitable, and relevant throughout many decades. Volkswagen has actually sold over 21.5 million vehicles.
But Wait, There’s More!
The name Volkswagen automatically conjures up a certain type of vehicle. When you think of a Volkswagen vehicle, you probably think of safety, durability, and efficiency. What thoughts are conjured by names like Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, and Bentley? These high-performance luxury vehicles are actually owned by Volkswagen. The public’s perception of Volkswagens should expand to include Speed and Luxury.
Germany’s Most Wanted
If you’re living in Germany, and you’re not walking, chances are you’re behind the wheel of a Volkswagen. Of the entire vehicle market, Volkswagen can account for one-third of all the vehicles sold in Germany. It’s fair to say that Volkswagen is the brand that Germans have grown to trust. That same trust even extends to the rest of the world. As recent as 2014, 1 out of every 10 vehicles sold in the world was a Volkswagen makes.
Look Who’s Hiring
Volkswagen is putting a lot of German citizens to work. Their workforce is approximately 600,000 people. That’s equivalent to half the state of New Hampshire. Imagine that, half the people in your state working for one company. If you’re ever in Germany looking for a job, Volkswagen seems like a good place to start.
